Opium Wars - Imperialism in China

The opium war was set off when Britain attempted to trade tea with china. The western europeans were trying to explore places and find new natural resources. China didn't want to trade with anybody. Britain wanted to trade with them so they gave them a drug called opium. Now that the chinese were on drugs they were willing to trade with britain for there opium. Now they were trading opium and tea. Later on china didn't like what they did so it lead to the opium war. Britain was the winner in this war.

Film Lesson: "Mountains of the Moon"

In the move "Mountains of the Moon" the two main characters were Richard Burton and John Speek. These two guys had many hardships to go threw. They had so face many different african tribes,Several Days of Bad Hyigene, Little Amount of Water, food problems, problems with slaves like stealing things from them,fighting and getting sick. Many of there slaves got sick and died. One of the problems they had was molavia. This was there main problem. There goal was to find the nile river and map africa. They ended up calling it lake victoria, which was the queen of england and up till today it has the same name. It is strane beacuse the population around it has african people with a river after a women from england. After all of this england came back to africa to conquer it with machine guns and this was porven to be very easy beacause the english people had machine guns while the africans had arrows and pipes.

Imperialism Project

In class all students had to do a prject on imperialism. This project was surppose to teach us about imperlism ang what happened during that time. I learned about what Belgium, italy, portugal, france, spanish, germany, and britan controlled during this time. Also during this time there were many things traded like tabbaco, cotton, silver, gold, sugar, slaves, coal, ivory, diamond, rubber, cannas, opium and tea. We had to show all of this in the map that the teacher gave us.
